Thank you for your diligence in preparing for Governing Council.
Refer to the Governing Council website 2018GoverningCouncil.com for information regarding the schedule, social activities etc. It’s already active so take the time to plan your schedule for GC.
If you are not attending Governing Council, please be sure that your club fills out the form for someone to carry your proxies – DO NOT lose your voice and votes. If you need me to carry proxies I’d be happy to do so – Lainie DeMore – USFS# is 211871 – https://fs12.formsite.com/USFSAIT/ProxyForm/ Although the deadline has passed, proxies are still being accepted.

It’s important that the delegates and the membership be educated and knowledgeable on the changes being presented and know they were carefully crafted by figure skating leadership with input from numerous stakeholders and constituents (our members) to ensure U.S. Figure Skating moves forward on all levels of the organization — from elite athletes to those in the developmental pipeline to those beginning their skating journey and those who support them (member clubs and programs).
I would appreciate your support and your vote in favor of all four initiatives. All are the culmination of member feedback from GC 2017 and extensive work by members and athletes from across the country, U.S. Figure Skating staff, committees and the Board.
Also, please take the time to read the Strategic Plan for 2018-2022. It can be found on the Members Only welcome page. The strategic plan details the direction of the organization for the next four years and it was a privilege for me to be the chair of the 13-member working group which developed this plan over the past several months.
The Meeting Book and various reports plus the Interim Report of Action #1 are available in Members Only section -> General Info -> Governing Council.
The Midwestern VP call is Wednesday, April 18th @ 8pm ET – a reminder will be going out on April 17. This is the “Book Call” to review the bylaw changes and the RFAs which are being considered at Governing Council. Please be sure you have read these items before the call and have both documents available as the meeting book has the rationale for the changes while the Interim Report of Action #1 has the action taken by the Board.
As you review the RFAs, you may have questions, an opinion to share or need clarification about a specific RFA. Email any questions or comments to me (edemore@gmail.com) with the specific RFA number before the Wednesday, April 18 call. This will allow time for research and to prepare a response for the April 18 call and allow me to note the RFA number for discussion on the call. There will be time for questions on the April 18 call. And of course, there will be other opportunities to ask questions before and during Governing Council.
On a personal note, I am running for President of U.S. Figure Skating. There will be a candidate’s forum on Friday afternoon with the vote taking place on Saturday morning before the start of the Governing Council meeting. My vision statement/statement of purpose can be found on page 168 in the meeting book. I am asking for your support and vote and I welcome any questions you may have.
